Choir and Band Performances

A Message from Ms. Simmons:
Choir and Intermediate band parents. Hopefully your child brought home the notice before break. We had a couple of performance opportunities present themselves and I got final details this week.
Both Choir and Intermediate band will be performing at the Solano Mall tomorrow evening starting at 5 pm.
The students need to be there at 4:45 pm. The stage is in front of the old Sports Authority (where it has been the last two years). Students just need to dress nicely. Intermediate band students need their music and their instruments.
This is NOT for beginning band. They will have their first performance in early spring.
Thank you for all your support.

Summer Updates

Students, Parents, Teachers, & Staff,

It is my pleasure to welcome you back for the 2016-2017 year at Oakbrook Academy of the Arts.   We are excited for this year to start and have lots of wonderful events planned.   Our favorite events such as Trunk or Treat, Winter Event, and the Talent Show, and we hope to add more!

For all this to happen we still need your help.  You can help in many different ways:

  • Become a volunteer – help a little or help a lot!  We are grateful for everything!
  • Join the PTA!  Become a member for just $8 and get discounts at participating locations just for being a member!   Being a PTA Member also gives you an opportunity to join the PTA Executive Board at the General Association meetings throughout the school year.
  • Become a PTA Board Member!   There are still many fun and exciting positions that are waiting for enthusiastic parent volunteers who want to do something more for their child’s school!

Oakbrook appreciates your continued support and we need it more than ever!

Contact us for more information, we would love to answer any questions you may have.

We are looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Melanie Hunt, PTA President

Principal’s Pod Particulars

Dear Oakbrook Families,

It is hard to believe that May has already jumped on the school bandwagon!! There are significant happenings in May and we are excited. We are in the midst of testing for the CAASPP. Grades 3—8 are testing in alternate days using the Chrome books and we are still finding out how long this new test takes. We are being flexible! Our main days of testing are Tuesday—Thursday mornings. We are doing make-up testing and finishing up on other days. We have planned on finishing mid-month, but we are still discovering how long it takes. This is good news actually, if students were finishing really quickly, it would mean they were not doing well as the test itself modulates to students correct answers. When they are correct, it asks them increasingly harder questions to find their point of success. We are looking forward to seeing results so it can inform out teaching and next steps for next year.

Your students have grown so much and tried so many new things this year. It has been a pleasure being with them.  We will be offering several major events in the next month. Grades 4-8 will be having their SPLASHTASTIC performances at the end of the month, which will be in their artistic focus. There will be some performances in the gym and some in classrooms similar to what we did in the winter with the primary grades in their Puptastic. We are excited for you to see our work in arts integration in history, science, math and language arts. We will also be having a Father (or Date) / Daughter Dance for grades Kinder thru 3rd. It will be our first annual and we are hoping you will really enjoy it. It is a fundraiser to help us support our art teachers and art supplies and we will also be showing some student art that you will be able to purchase.

Next year is almost here. There will be some grade level changes for teachers next year. We will have a full-time art or music teacher on campus all year. We will also continue dance and have a full time PE teacher. We received grant money from The Mondavi Center again for next year, which is great news! We will share with different grade levels than this year and students will be able to visit UCD.

We are getting some new technology, we will start working with film-making, editing, coding and much more! We are excited for all the things we worked on this year and how we will make it better next year in performances, field trips, curriculum and arts integration. Teacher work days are August 15th & 16th and class lists will be posted on August 16th by student ID number! You will find that information on their report card, but your student probably knows it too. School starts August 17th.
